In Schengen, we saw the beginning of European unity. It was in Schengen that a treaty was signed that introduced open boarders. Being very close with both France and Germany, Schengen acted as a meeting ground of European nations. Below are several pictures I took of monuments symbolizing the unity of Europe.
In Verdun we visited an incredible museum near the battleground. It provided fascinating information about not only the battle itself but also World War 1. What struck me personally was the landscape of Verdun. The artillery firing completely transformed the land. It is ravaged with craters. Below you will see a picture of the landscape as well a picture the monument to the soldiers.
